Police car damaged after highway crash
A police car was severely damaged as officers tried to pull over a driver allegedly evading police in Bunbury yesterday.
South West traffic officers were lucky to avoid any injuries when the alleged pursuit ended with the two cars colliding on Bussell Highway near Bunbury Hospital about 3pm.
Police first saw the car on Ecclestone Street in Carey Park where a police check identified the registration plates did not match the vehicle and had previously been allegedly stolen in Dalyellup.
Police activated their sirens and tried to stop the car, but the driver allegedly accelerated away.
Police were forced to abort the alleged pursuit near the roundabout at Robertson Drive and Bussell Highway due to the manner of driving.
The vehicle was travelling south on Bussell Highway when another car pulled out of the Bunbury Hospital entrance and the alleged evasive driver over-corrected, hit a kerb and damaged his car.
The driver then allegedly drove in reverse on Bussell Highway as police followed before accelerating forwards and colliding with the police car.
An 18-year-old Bunbury man and two 14-year-old boys were arrested at the scene.
The 18-year-old driver was allegedly wanted in relation to a number of other incidents, including a burglary, and has been charged with a string of offences.
The two boys have not been charged.
South West police are calling for witnesses to contact them on 131 444.
It is hoped the police car can be fixed.
