Police officer injured during foot chase
A Bunbury police officer successfully helped chase down an alleged thief despite falling through a garden shed and hitting his head during the foot chase.
Police arrested a 19-year-old man at Dalyellup Beach after a number of offenders allegedly broke into several homes and cars across the suburb about 4am yesterday.
Residents phoned police and a nearby patrol car was quickly on the scene.
The offenders allegedly ran from police through several yards with one running across a garden shed.
The officer followed, but fell through the shed’s roof and hit a workbench.
Remarkably, the officer continued the foot chase and the man was eventually arrested.
Bunbury police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Mal Jones said due to the man’s aggressive behaviour he had to be tasered before being taken into custody.
The officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries, but was released a short time later.
The man was charged with a string of offences including burglary, stealing and trespassing and was due to face court today.
Police were continuing inquiries into other offenders.
