Possible tourist accommodation to settle in Manjimup business district

A proposal for a new motel in Manjimup was put forward to the council at the recent meeting, with planned accommodation including 75 standard villas, several single bedroom studios and four-bedroom bungalows along with accessible accommodation. At the November 16 meeting, an item was put forward to the council which requested planning approval of a motel and tourist resort along Narocki Way, Chopping Street and Pritchard Street, which would be built on 12 parcels of land totalling more than 3ha. The planning proposal listed several accommodation types and amenities to be built, including 75 standard villas, 17 single-bedroom villas, 18 four-bedroom bungalows, an aquatic facility, gym, outdoor cinema and parking for 147 cars along with several communal spaces. Rather than accept the officers’ recommendation to grant planning approval, councillors deferred the decision until the developers make a presentation to the council. President Donelle Buegge said the council would be doing its due diligence in making sure that the proposed accommodation would be of the highest quality and that the final product would be the same as the proposed concept. “We are doing our due diligence, that it’s going to be aesthetically pleasing and have the facilities they both have said they will be building and that will benefit the community and visitors,” she said. “That’s why the council has deferred giving the approval to the developers.” Ms Buegge noted its location and the need to make sure residents in the area, along with the wider population, would be happy with the development. “It’s going to have residential buildings around, despite the location being in a light industrial area, and we are taking that into consideration with this process,” she said. “We want to make sure that we are keeping as many people as happy as possible with this project. “It looks fantastic, but we just want to make sure the way it’s presented to us is the way the town will want to see it.”
