The Bunbury Studio Potters will turn 40 this month, a milestone the group plans to mark with not one, but two exhibitions.

Set to be held at Bunbury Regional Art Gallery and the Stirling Street Arts Centre, both exhibitions will feature pieces from across the group’s 40-year history and will serve as a nod to its past and present members,

BSP secretary Bonny Savage said the group was still going strong with 33 members, two of whom were founding members.

“The whole thing is about showing people what we do,” she said.

“It’s about telling anyone they can do pottery.

“It’s really good for the community to get involved and you don’t have to be an expert, you can actually start somewhere.”

The BRAG exhibition, BSP40: Forty years of the Bunbury Studio Potters Group, will be launched tomorrow night and remain on display until September 22. It also marks the group’s first official exhibition at the gallery.

On August 16, the Act Belong Commit Bunbury Studio Potters Pottery Exhibition and Sale will be launched at the Stirling Street Arts Centre, an event that will run for just three days.

“It’s a real bonus when you sell something, but really it’s just us showing off,” BSP member Beth Ivanac said.

Ms Savage added that after 40 years, many of the potters and the group as a whole has ended up with a lot crafted pieces. She said they also welcomed new members.
