Praise for Bunbury community as thousands continue to roll up their sleeves for COVID-19 vaccinations

After dropping in to the Bunbury COVID-19 vaccination clinic to have a chat with a few young families getting the COVID jab for their children this week, it truly is fantastic to see so many people stepping up to do their part. Earlier this week, children aged five to 11 years were finally able to get their first COVID-19 vaccination with thousands of kids across WA rolling up their sleeves and parents making appointments. During my visit to the clinic, not only were there quite a number of families waiting in line for their children but plenty of the general population waiting for their jabs as well. What struck me most was seeing some families make an affair of the occasion with parents receiving their booster shots along with their children getting their first doses. I was also told the clinic has been inundated with visitors in recent weeks, with nurses administering up to 1000 doses each day. It really does show that the vast majority of Bunbury, let alone WA are stepping up when it matters most to do the right thing and get vaccinated. Of course, we did have a bit of a scare during the Christmas period with a few unvaccinated backpackers slightly ruining the festive spirit but by and large we have continued to have it pretty darn good over here compared with the rest of the country. Despite supply shortages affecting our supermarkets and new requirements to show proof of vaccination in particular venues, we have been able to go about our lives as normally as it can be. No doubt once our borders open next month things will change but one can only hope that as many of us as possible are vaccinated and we all stay vigilant and healthy.
