Prospector missing near Collie

An elderly man is missing near Collie after becoming separated from his friend while prospecting.

Police say 70-year-old John Donald MacKay was last seen in the Bell Brook/Toorak roads area in Yourdamung Lake, about 30 km north-west of Collie.

He became separated from his friend about 5pm yesterday and there are concerns for his welfare.

Mr MacKay is described as being light skinned, about 181cm tall with a solid build, moustache and white hair.

He was last seen wearing dark clothing, a wide brimmed hat and steel capped boots.

Police and other emergency services are conducting a land and air search.
