Michael Lane’s five-year old Trade War faces an intriguing third-up assignment in Saturday’s Tabtouch — Have You Got The Touch Handicap (1300m) at Belmont Park.

Ridden by regular hoop Chris Parnham, the Boyanup gelding will not only jump from barrier 13, but also will need to carry 59kg.

Punters are likely to forgive Trade War for his last start — 11th to Catalpa at Belmont Park on May 27 — as the five-year-old used up his fair share of petrol while attempting to mow down the field from a three-wide path on the outside.

Brandon Louis, who was aboard the gelding, was able to generate a decent turn of foot heading into the home straight, however Trade War wasn’t able to sustain it in the dying seconds.

Lane’s gelding opened his present preparation on May 13 by running third to Man Crush, a trip where he relished a run along the rail, before crossing into the centre of the track with less than 200m to run.
