Redbacks bring twists to season

You can be assured of one thing this summer — every first-grade game involving Hay Park is going to include plenty of twists and turns. At times this season, the Redbacks have looked sensational. Other times, they have struggled and been off the pace. And in some matches, they have looked good and bad in the same game and still walked away with a favourable result. The Redbacks were brilliant against Eaton last Saturday, with Caleb Bridge (1-15 off five overs) and Adam Worlley (2-13 off seven overs) causing the reigning premiers a few problems. Despite it being his first game, Bridge did not look out of place and it will be interesting if he keeps his place in the side this week. When challenged early in their run chase of 129, the Redbacks were 3-2 and looking under extreme duress. Thankfully, a patient knock from mature youngster Jonah Lincoln (41 off 88 balls) helped steady the ship and get them home. Lincoln has scored 148 runs this season at an average of 37. Should he continue his good form, Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association selectors may come calling regarding his country week availability. What will they be able to produce against Colts on Saturday at the Bunbury Recreation Ground? After dropping their opening two matches, Colts have been unbeaten and enjoyed a stable line-up under the guidance of skipper Josh Topliss. Having said this, the Redbacks’ last victory over Colts away from home was in last year’s semifinal, when Steven Florance’s side rolled them by 41 runs after making 161.
