Refinery eyes Kemerton site
Bunbury has been highlighted as one of three potential sites for the location of a multi-million dollar lithium refinery.
Kidman Resources highlighted Kemerton Industrial Park, which is located 17km north east of Bunbury and serviced by two major highways, as one of three possible locations for the refinery which will process lithium from the company’s Mt Holland lithium mine in the Goldfields.
The other two options included the Mungari Industrial Estate, 20km west of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Kwinana.
South West MLC Colin Holt said it was vital that the project be regionally based.
“The Kidman refinery has the potential to create 400 jobs during construction and an additional 380 full-time roles once operational – this would have a hugely positive impact in Bunbury and surrounding communities if Kemerton was the chosen location,” Mr Holt said.
He said the refinery presented an exciting opportunity for the South West region to grow and hoped to see a push for it to be located regionally.
