Region seen through eyes of artists
An in-depth insight into the story of the South West will fill the walls of the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries in what is being described as a “celebration of the diversity of artist practice in the South West”.
Arts and culture education and communication officer Michele Grimston said the South West Art Now exhibition, featuring 59 of the South West’s finest artists at all stages of their respective careers, would strike a chord with visitors and residents.
“One of the important things about this exhibition is that because it is South West focused, it is telling the story of the South West through the eyes of the artist,” Ms Grimston said.
“It is a great chance for the community to feel really connected to the work and also a great chance for visitors to have some insight into how incredible this region really is.
“It moves beyond the standard tourist photos and gives a deeper experience.”
Ms Grimston says the showcase proves “being in a regional area isn’t a barrier to making incredible artworks that are really meaningful”.
The exhibition is set to open on Saturday at 6pm and will run until May 12.
An $8000 cash prize will be awarded to the winning artwork.
