Region’s growth ‘phenomenal’

Callum HunterSouth Western Times

In the wake of WA’s record breaking tourism growth, the Bunbury Geographe region has put the rest of the South West in the shade, boasting what industry experts have described as “phenomenal growth”.

According to the latest national visitor survey, the region experienced a 35.8 per cent increase in international visitor nights and a 20.6 per cent increase in domestic visitor nights in the 2018-19 financial year.

Bunbury Geographe Tourism Partnership tourism marketing and development manager Anissa Williams said the region’s focus on the visitor economy had paid dividends.

“The region now works together, with the same brand message, to make a stronger impact,” she said. Ms Williams said the visitor economy has the region’s biggest economic multiplier, double that of mining.
