Rose Hotel co-owner Dave Allan was thrilled to be named WA’s Best Redeveloped Venue at the 2017 Australian Hotels Association Hospitality Awards for excellence ahead of stiff competition.

The hotelier was up against the likes of Niche Bar (Leederville) and the Patriots Sports Bar at the Brass Monkey Hotel (Northbridge), as well as local competitor The Prince of Wales Hotel.

“It’s a huge win – it’s a pretty serious award and we were up against venues with open chequebooks,” Mr Allan said.

“It really reflects on the design by Michael Benson and the local tradies we used to complete the redevelopment.

“It’s been a massive transformation – we put in our blood, sweat and tears to make it happen, so it’s good to get the recognition and to see that the people in the South West have appreciated what we have done.

Mr Allan said the transformation was made more challenging as the building was state heritage listed, which required extra approval processes.

He said the high representation of Bunbury businesses at the awards helped to showcase what the city has to offer.

“Our win and the representation at the Statewide award night shows that what is happening in Bunbury is top of the tree and we are proud to be involved.”

Mr Allan said being named as a finalist in nine categories showed the venue was “really hitting the mark”.
