Bunbury students are being encouraged to run for their schools this weekend at the SWAS Telstra Fun Run.

The school with the most students entered in the Saturday morning fun run around the Leschenault Inlet will receive a $500 cash and technology prize from Telstra.

Children aged 10 and under can take part in the 2km run, which was introduced last year.

Those aged 11 to 16 years can enter the junior category in a number of walking and running events including the 10km run, 5km run and 5km walk.

SWAS chief executive Bernice Butlion encouraged parents to come along and cheer on their children and also enter the event themselves.

“This is an opportunity to get kids involved from a young age – just come along and have a go,” she said.

“The event is very family-friendly.

“Whether you are walking or running or participating in a junior or senior category – we encourage you to come along and join in the fun. Prams are welcome.”

Heralded as the fun run for all ages and abilities, the annual race features a number of walking and running categories.

Junior entrants have the chance to get their hands on a bicycle donated by Melo Velo and there are cash prizes for junior and senior place holders.

All those who enter have the chance of winning a $250 Tint A Car voucher as a lucky draw prize. The fun run begins at 8am.
