Run for fun to boost community, athletes
A record number of participants are set to run around the Leschenault Inlet in this Saturday’s South West Academy of Sport Telstra Fun Run.
More than 150 people have already signed up for the event, which raises money for SWAS, its athletes and programs.
Participants can either compete in the 10km run, 5km run or walk or run 2km, or team up and take the 5km and 10km distances.
SWAS chief executive officer Bernice Butlion said to break the record more than 210 runners would need to participate and there was still time to sign up.
“I encourage people to come down and support this great community event,” she said.
“You can run or walk, but it doesn’t matter because you are supporting a great cause.
“And you will be able to meet some of the SWAS athletes that you are helping develop into future stars.”
Mrs Butlion said this was the fifth annual run and every year it was growing.
“It makes me so proud,” she said.
“It grows every year, with more additions. For example, this year every competitor will get a free sausage sizzle thanks to Telstra.”
SWAS race walker Cooper Anderson will participate in the walk, Zeke Tinley is a triathlete who will participate in the run and many other young stars from the academy are set to pound the pavement.
