Scholarship has business owner doing backflips

A Dalyellup business owner has bounced into an invaluable scholarship on the back of a successful two years.

Gravity ETC owner Juliette Davies secured the 2018 South West Leaders Scholarship – a joint initiative by South West Leaders and Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The 12-month scholarship includes access to monthly workshops and mentoring sessions hosted by leading professional services companies, access to capital markets and opportunities to develop relationships with business leaders from across the country.

Having already attended one of the workshops, Miss Davies said she had been “re-inspired” thanks to the scholarship.

“It was really awesome being among people who are also passionate about what they do,” Miss Davies said.

“I had been looking for a local, WA-based learning platform where I could continue to develop my skills as a business owner and up popped a call for scholarship applications from the chamber.”

The trampoline centre has been open for two years and Miss Davies was selected for the scholarship largely through the business’ support back into the community.

“It’s so encouraging to receive this kind of recognition,” Miss Davies said.

“I’m looking forward to that one afternoon a month where I’ll be forced to take time out and think about my business direction – where I can talk face to face with local like-minded people who are also there to learn and improve.

“It’s a great chance to switch off operationally and be inspired by other people who are also passionate about what they do, rather than be tucked away in my office.”

South West Leaders chief executive officer Iain Massey said the quality of applicants for the scholarship was inspiring and choosing a winner was not easy.

“But the support that Gravity ETC gives to community and youth programs was what made their application really stand out,” Mr Massey said.

The centre will hold its latest fundraiser asking for people to donate non perishable food for its “Our Community CAN” Halloween weekend on October 27 and 28.

The centre will donate $2 from every full price jump to one of three local causes and prizes such as a Gravity Golden Ticket are up for grabs.
