Two Bunbury cricketers will have the eyes of the nation on them come Saturday, when they compete in the finals of the Big Bash League.

Perth Scorchers wicketkeeper Sam Whiteman and batswoman Chloe Piparo will both play for the WA side at the “Furnace” this weekend in one of the biggest cricket matches of the summer.

The Scorchers have made their first Women’s Big Bash League final and Piparo will play an important part in the middle order.

Piparo and the Scorchers defeated the Brisbane Heat yesterday by nine wickets, with the Bunbury cricketer not required to bat.

Whiteman, who played for Colts in the Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association, is looking for his third Big Bash League title, having been part of the franchise’s victories in the third and fourth edition of the competition.

The Scorchers defeated the Melbourne Stars in yesterday’s semi-final, with Whiteman scoring 31 runs from 26 balls as opener for the home side.

The women’s side will take on either the winner of tonight’s semi-final between the Sydney Sixers and the Hobart Hurricanes.

In the men’s competition, the Brisbane Heat will host the Sydney Sixers tonight at the GABBA to see who will play in the final.
