Key recruit Rod Shemeld put on a fantastic all-round show to lead Dalyellup Beach to a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Marist at Dalyellup College on Saturday.

The former Leschenault all-rounder tore through the Blues’ top order to finish with 3-38 from 10 overs, before belting 34 in the successful run chase.

Marist skipper Reece O’Connel chose to bat on what was a good deck, but Shemeld soon took control, trapping Max Bryant (4) in front before having Kyle Davis caught behind by wicketkeeper-captain Paul Jones.

Corey Fitt batted well to score 50 for the Blues, before he was stumped off Shemeld’s bowling after failing to get his foot down in time.

Dalyellup all-rounder Corey Fagan became the first person to dismiss O’Connell in one-day cricket this year when he had him caught for nine, while the rest of the middle order failed to fire.

A 42-run partnership from Adam Spinelli (22) and Alan Utterson (20) helped Marist get to 133 from 40 overs, but in-form Liam Renton ripped through the lower order, taking three wickets.

Fagan and Shemeld quickly began to put a dent in the run-chase, before O’Connell dismissed Shemeld by taking a catch off his own bowling.

But this did not stop Fagan, who hit 16 fours and a six in his unbeaten 85 off 74 balls, with Justin Woods partnering the all-rounder to the finish to see the Settlers chase down the total in just 22.2 overs.
