Printsync South West Slammers women’s head coach Nathan Grover has a full complement of players to pick from ahead of this weekend’s SBL Pre-Season Blitz tournament at Warwick Stadium.

With both American imports Makailah Dyer and Brittni Montgomery now settled in, Grover is keen to see how far his squad has progressed.

“We’ve had a couple of decent weeks with good numbers at training,” he said.

“We pushed the girls pretty hard on Tuesday night – which gave us a great opportunity to scrimmage for a large part of the session and we got through a lot of stuff.

“We’ll do the same tonight to get ready for the weekend. It’ll just be a great opportunity for us to implement things we’ve gone through, but in a game situation.”

Grover is impressed with both Americans and believes they will have a good impact on the locker room.

“In general, both of them are a good fit with the group,” he said.

“‘Mak’ has obviously been here a little bit longer, but ‘Britt’ has already fitted in really well. Brittni’s physical presence under the basket I think is going to cause a few teams a lot of dramas this year.

“She also brings a different aspect to the offence because she can also demand the ball low and gets into really good positions to get the ball.

“She is also very strong – I know this first hand, from having to play a bit of defence against her last week in practise.”

Youth will be a priority on day one of the tournament, with the Slammers starters expected to suit up for three quarters during Sunday’s game against the Cockburn Cougars.
