Socceroos call up Risdon for World Cup play-offs
Bunbury-raised Australian defender Josh Risdon will be part of the Socceroos squad to try to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Risdon was one of five new players named in the 23-man squad for next month’s World Cup play-offs games against Syria.
The 25-year-old left the Perth Glory this year to play for the Western Sydney Wanderers after eight years with his home club.
Risdon has played three official games for the Socceroos since his debut against Bangladesh in 2015.
The opening match is on October 5 in Malaysia, with the Socceroos host Syria at ANZ Stadium five days later.
Goalkeepers: Mat Ryan, Mitchell Langerak, Danny Vukovic.
Defenders: Aziz Behich, Milos Degenek, Mathew Jurman, Josh Risdon, Trent Sainsbury, Brad Smith, Bailey Wright.
Midfielders: Mustafa Amini, Craig Goodwin, Jackson Irvine, Massimo Luongo, Mark Milligan, Aaron Mooy, Tom Rogic, James Troisi.
Forwards: Tim Cahill, Tomi Juric, Robbie Kruse, Mathew Leckie, Nikita Rukavytsya.
