South West AFL Watch: Busselton’s Jye Amiss rewarded with long-awaited Rising Star nod

After just missing out on a Rising Star nod last weekend, Busselton’s Jye Amiss has been rewarded for his hard work following his second straight three-goal haul. The emerging Dockers spearhead was named the round 11 Rising Star nominee for his three-goal performance in Saturday’s exciting 12.7 (79) to 10.12 (72) win over Narrm (Melbourne) at the MCG. Two of his three goals of the match came during a tense final term, and he also set up another to teammate Lachie Schultz in the goal square. Amiss also managed 14 disposals, three inside 50s, a mark, two goal assists, six score involvements, three tackles and 10 pressure acts. After receiving the good news, Amiss told The West Australian the nomination was “good recognition of the hard work” he had been putting in. Teammate Ethan Hughes also had a solid performance for the Dockers, finishing with 17 disposals, a clearance, eight marks, two score involvements, three tackles and 10 pressure acts. Meanwhile, Harvey’s Brady Hough and Dunsborough’s Reuben Ginbey were part of a slowly improving West Coast side in their 14.12 (96) to 6.10 (46) loss to Essendon at Optus Stadium. In what was described as “the minimum” by coach Adam Simpson, the Eagles bounced back from a woeful day out against Hawthorn in a bid to try and turn around their horror season. Ginbey has continued to have an imposing presence on the opposition, amassing a game-high five tackles for the match along with 20 pressure acts - just three behind Tim Kelly. The former Dunsborough Shark junior also finished with 19 disposals - including seven intercept possessions, an inside 50, a clearance, an intercept mark and three score involvements. Hough also put up a solid showing, finishing with 21 disposals, an inside 50, five marks, three score involvements and 14 pressure acts. On Sunday, former Manjimup Tiger junior Marlion Pickett featured in Richmond’s devastating 10.17 (77) to 9.13 (67) loss to Port Adelaide at the MCG in the Tigers’ first outing without Damien Hardwick at the helm. Pickett amassed 17 disposals for the match, along with an inside 50, four clearances, a mark, three score involvements, two tackles and 14 pressure acts.
