South West AFL Watch: Marlion Pickett and Brady Hough feature in round 21, other stars reminisce junior days

While some of the South West’s AFL stars continued putting on solid performances on the footy field, several others reminisced their junior footy days off the field. Manjimup’s Marlion Pickett had a solid day out in the midfield during Richmond’s 16.13 (109) to 10.11 (71) win over Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday. The 30-year-old managed a goal during the late stages of the final quarter to help seal the Tigers’ 38-point win, as well as eight disposals, a tackle, two intercept possessions, three score involvements, 11 pressure acts and a clearance. Meanwhile, Harvey’s Brady Hough continued to show promise in West Coast’s 16.6 (102) to 13.8 (86) loss to Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Sunday just days after he it was reported he was likely to sign a contract extension, committing himself to the Eagles to at least 2025. Although Hough was unable to boot his first goal during the late stages of the opening quarter, he was sighted across the half-back flank and within the midfield. The 19-year-old finished with 10 disposals, seven marks, two tackles, an intercept possession, four score involvements and seven pressure acts. Off the field, more of the South West’s AFL stars went back to their roots in their respective training sessions, wearing guernseys from the clubs they played with in their junior days. Busselton’s Jye Amiss took to Instagram to share a photo of himself wearing his Busselton Magpies guernsey alongside Connor Blakely, who wore his Bunbury guernsey, and Ethan Hughes, who was sporting his Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault guernsey. Fellow former Busselton Magpie James Tunstill also got in on the action with the Brisbane Lions after teammate Mitch Robinson posted a TikTok featuring Tunstill along with several other teammates wearing their junior footy guernseys.
