On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, a stillness will spread across the South West as communities take part in a minute of silence to remember those who fought for Australia and died in the line of duty.

Commemorative Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held in several towns in the region as people come together to pay their respects to the men and women who gave their life for their country and helped gain the freedoms Australians experience today.

The day marks the end of fighting on the Western Front on November 11, 1918 — a moment Bunbury Returned and Services League president John Gelmi said would continue to be important to commemorate as the years go by.

Mr Gelmi encouraged Bunbury residents to come and pay their respects to returned service people and those who lost their lives fighting.

“It recognises the end of the First World War and is a very important service for the community to attend,” he said.

Lest we forget.
