South West Development Commission settles down in Collie

The South West Development Commission has opened a new office in Collie in order to be more prominently placed as it deals with increased State Government investment in the town.

Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan cut the ribbon at the town’s former post office on the corner of Throssell and Pendleton streets.

She said the State Government’s continued investment in Collie meant there was a greater need for the office.

“Our investment in Collie is opening doors for job-creating, economy-boosting projects to set up in town,” she said

“A new location for the South West Development Commission will ensure the State Government is working in the heart of Collie, with our doors open to support local business.”

The office also has the capability to act as a central hub for other agencies visiting town and for new initiatives.

South West Development Commission acting chief executive Rebecca Ball said the relocation of the agency’s office to a more prominent location was a reflection of the important work being done.

“We now have three full-time staff members, including a local trainee, based in Collie who are supported by a larger team based around the region,” she said.

“The team that is based here — along with their colleagues in other locations including Bunbury — are very much focused on supporting and driving projects that propel Collie forward.

“We welcome local residents and beyond to come and talk to our team and bring forward creative, industry-led project ideas that will generate jobs for Collie.

“We want to capitalise on the strong human capital of the region and take advantage of the significant assets — both industrial and natural — the town has to offer.”
