Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School students Sari Wooton and Fletcher Wetherell are two of eight South West hockey players chosen in the boys and girl’s under-15 WA squads.

The pair will be joined by Boyanup Hockey Club’s Ella du Preez, Maddison Fenwick and Cobi and Raine Fisher in the two squads that will head to compete in the FHE Cup at the Perth Hockey Stadium and next year’s National Championships in Wollongong, New South Wales in April.

Collie’s Laura Crowe and Eaton’s Jordan Smithall have been named as train-ons.

For Sari it will be her third time representing WA in hockey, with the 13-year-old also playing for the State in basketball.

“It is good to represent (WA),” she said.

“The competition just from Bunbury to Perth is a lot different.

“But to verse all the different States, well the competition is a lot harder.

“I hope to take it (hockey) really far and make it my career one day.”

Fletcher, 13, said he was excited to play in a higher age group ahead of the fourth time he will represent WA.

“I like to make new friends and have fun,” he said.

“Hopefully I can get more experience so that I can get better.”

The midfielder said he wanted to play at centre-half this time to get more into the play.
