South West Football League clubs call on star power to help launch season

A number of South West Football League clubs called on some star power to help them launch their 2024 seasons. AFL legends Glen Jakovich, John Worsfold and Mick Malthouse were the main attractions at South Bunbury on Tuesday night. The trio, who have combined for nine AFL premierships across their playing and coaching careers, addressed the club’s senior playing group before speaking to a packed room on the 30th anniversary of West Coast’s 1994 premiership, when Malthouse coached and Jakovich and Worsfold played. Bunbury also had a pair of Eagles legends in their midst on Friday night in Shannon Hurn and Scott Cummings. Hurn, West Coast’s 2018 premiership captain, retired last year after a 333-game career, while Cummings booted 158 goals in his 46 games with the club. At Harvey, former Geelong champion Harry Taylor helped the Bulls open their campaign on Saturday. The 280-game, two-time premiership winner helped to run junior and senior skills clinics before speaking to the club about the importance of culture.
