South West residents to decorate with lights to thank workers

Ailish DelaneySouth Western Times

South West residents have been encouraged to string fairy lights out the front of their houses from tomorrow as part of the Fairy Lights for our Frontline initiative.

The initiative is a collective effort led by WA charities to honour the nurses, police, paramedics, pharmacists and other workers serving the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research’s Paige Gibbs said thanking healthcare professionals was wonderful and it was also important to remember the workers who were keeping the city functioning during this time.

“As the entire country is coming to terms with a new normal brought on by COVID-19, many of us watched our neighbours head to work and continue serving to help maintain normalcy for all of us,” Ms Gibbs said.
