Another day of wet and wild weather is in store for the South West as the latest of a series of strong cold fronts hits the region.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services is urging residents to batten down the hatches and prepare for strong winds of up to 100km/h, damaging surf and possible hail.

Sunny skies were short lived last week as the brief break from the wet weather gave way to showery and gusty conditions across the weekend, continuing into early this week.

DFES issued a severe weather warning this morning, warning a strong cold front passing over the region would bring stormy conditions.

The weather is typical for this time of year but residents are being urged to prepare for potential property damage and dangerous road conditions.

A thunderstorm battered the region from yesterday afternoon, with Bunbury collecting 7.4mm of rain overnight.

Cape Leeuwin recorded the strongest wind gust of 128 km/h at 2.40pm, followed by 106 km/h at Dardanup at 6.27pm and 104km/h at Busselton Jetty at 4pm.

Bunbury saw its strongest gust of 93 km/h just before 5pm.

Conditions are expected to ease later tonight and through tomorrow, but rainy days are likely to continue throughout the week.
