Sport part of Bunbury’s DNA, says mayor ready to celebrate achievements

Sport is part of Bunbury’s fabric and important to many people in our community. The health benefits are obvious, but being a part of a club isn’t just about getting out on a field or court and playing sports, it’s about the friendships, it’s about belonging and it’s about contributing to our community. The mental and social benefits are invaluable. These are just a few of the reasons I am proud to host the City’s Bunbury Geographe Sports Awards this Friday, recognising athletes, officials, volunteers and sporting events that all contribute to our beautiful region. We have so many amazing and talented athletes, para-athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and sporting clubs doing amazing things and contributing to our community. While these annual awards recognise just a handful of those contributing through sport in our region, I hope they shine a light more broadly on the impact sport has, and the opportunities, achievements and aspirations possible for everyone in our community. Thank you to everyone who contributes to sport in the Bunbury Geographe region, you play an important part in the physical, mental and social health and wellbeing of our community. A further thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate someone for an award this year, and to the City and our neighbours at the shires of Capel, Dardanup and Harvey for their support. And a massive thank you to our award sponsors this year – your support and contribution, not only to these awards but in our community is highly appreciated. Lastly, a massive congratulations in advance to our winners set to be announced on Friday but also to our finalists and everyone nominated. I look forward to celebrating sport, its people and all it means to Bunbury Geographe this Friday, and to the year ahead in which I’m sure there will be plenty more inspirational sporting achievements to come.
