Inclusion is the overriding theme of the 2019 SWAS Telstra Fun Run, which will be held on Saturday, March 16 around Bunbury’s Leschenault Inlet.

With anticipation building, South West Academy of Sport chief executive Bernice Butlion is encouraging all members of the public – regardless of athletic ability – to take part in the community-based event.

“The concept was purely around community engagement along with promoting the SWAS brand throughout the South West,” she said.

“Along with getting local families and members of the community involved to come along and have a go.

“It doesn’t matter what ability you have, it’s just a community event.”

Butlion outlined the importance of safety within the event, with the Leschenault Inlet-based course possessing plenty of benefits for both athletes and motorists.

“What we like about it is that there are no road closures,” she said. “It’s very safe – you stay on the one track.

“And it’s actually easier for us to manage with our volunteers. Because everyone runs in a clockwise direction, from a control point of view in terms of risk, it is easier to manage.”
