CinefestOZ Film Festival has named 15 students from five South West schools as finalists in its annual Cinesnaps Short Film Competition.

The annual project invites young, aspiring filmmakers aged 15-18 from South West schools to create 3-5-minute films exploring this year’s chosen theme, The Watch.

Rio Tinto Greater Hope Downs general manager Gaby Poirier said this year’s competition promised an impressive calibre of entrants.

“It’s great to see representation from schools all over the South West and we’re proud to be once again supporting Cinesnaps, which helps to inspire the next generation of Australian filmmakers and fosters creativity within the community,” he said.

The seven finalists from across the South West were Tavian Ord and Jamie Jones, of Margaret River Senior High School, Alastair Bruce, Brendan Allan, Mikayla Winn, of St Mary Mckillop College, Aidan Gillet and Jake Holland, of Cape Naturaliste College, Skye Allen and Kaila Walz, of Cape Naturaliste College, Dylan McIntyre, of Manea Senior College, Joshua Wittwer, Jayden Jackson and Blake Madden, of Cornerstone Christian College and Cooper Warrick and James Kenworthy, of Cape Naturaliste College.

The students will walk the red carpet at the Cinesnaps grand finale later this month.
