Summer film festival boost for BREC
Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre’s Summer Film Festival has been given a $4000 boost thanks to an Act-Belong-Commit grant.
Bunbury MLA John Castrilli presented centre general manager Sharon Custers with the grant today, ahead of the opening tonight.
Ms Custers said the money would be used to subsidise ticket prices and market the festival.
“We want this to be accessible for everyone to be able to attend a film, so we are making ticket prices affordable,” she said.
“We have nearly 50 volunteers for the festival because it is about being involved in something.”
Mr Castrilli said Bunbury had become more multicultural in the past few years and a festival like this adds to the city’s vibrancy.
“An event like this brings people from everywhere to the South West and everyone benefits including the cafes and restaurants in the city,” he said.
The Bunbury event was one of 18 arts and community organisations to share in $809,000 from Healthway sponsorship to promote healthy lifestyles.
