Sundowner to have spirit of Spain

Emily AceSouth Western Times

As the sun sets over the Ferguson Valley on February 10, a celebration of all things Spanish will take over Green Door Wines.

The Spanish Sundowner event hosted by Food With Passion South West chefs Mon Barrero and Laura McGinley will be the first of its kind, but the pair hope there will be more to come if it is a success.

“It’s summer and it’s a winery so it’s the perfect place to do a Spanish fiesta,” Mrs McGinley said.

“We combine the wine with the sun, with the beautiful landscape, the food, dancers, music and colour.”

A big pan of paella bursting with flavour will be cooked in front of guests as they enjoy 10 different kinds of authentic, handmade picoteo – Spanish finger food – as well as sangria, dancing and music.

“All the tapas is homemade, very traditional and authentic – we prepare everything from scratch,” she said.

“We are really happy to celebrate this because in Spain summer is really special.

“The combination of food, wine, music and paella at night and enjoying the view is perfect.”

Dancers from Sol y Sombra Nicole Kostezky and Susie Maratea will add another element of entertainment to the festivities.

“We will have a bit of variety and mix it up between something a little bit lighter as well as heavier and fun,” Ms Maratea said.

“It adds to the essence of what a fiesta is in Spain, so we want them to feel like they are in Spain.”

Ms Kostezky said she hoped people would get swept up in the lively dancing, full of colour, rhythm and movement.

“The dancing adds authenticity and we hope people will want to clap along and we will see how it evolves,” she said.
