The South West Academy of Sport can now add one of the world’s top surfers to its list of past participants.

Past scholarship holder Bronte Macaulay has earned a position on this year’s World Surf League Women’s Championship Tour and will now share the water with the big guns of surfing.

Her position on the elite Championship Tour, which gets underway with the Roxy Pro Gold Coast in March, was confirmed after she finished in second place on the 2016 Women’s World Qualifying Series.

Macaulay, who is the daughter of two-time world number three Dave Macaulay, will be the only Western Australian competing in the series this year.

The Gracetown-raised talent will get a chance to shine on home ground when she competes in the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro, which is scheduled to take place between March 29 and April 9.
