SW Targa drivers give Ocean Star seniors a thrill

South Western Times
VideoThere were some VERY excited residents at Ocean Star Aged Care were taken for a joy ride around town in the impressive cars which competed in the SW GT Fabrication Targa Bunbury Sprint!

Almost 30 Targa rally drivers answered the call to bring joy to Ocean Star Aged Care residents on Saturday ahead of the iconic race on Sunday.

Ocean Star lifestyle organiser Robyn Gibbons said the faces of the residents lit up when they heard the roar of the engines.

“It’s just something really different for them, something out of the box and exciting,” she said.

Ms Gibbons said it was overwhelming to receive so much support.

The residents were treated to a cruise around town in the exotic cars, where some even waved chequered flags out the windows.

Driver Keith Hawley said he was happy to arrive in Bunbury early to stop by the facility before the rally.

“Wayne Turner asked whether a few blokes could come down and grab a granny or a grandpa, so I thought why not,” he said.

“I thought, I hope someone does it for me when I am in a nursing home.

“So hopefully we gave them a bit of a thrill on a beautiful day.”
