A team of 11 swimmers from the Bunbury Swimming Club put their skills to the test against against the best swimmers in WA at the State Junior Short Course Championships in Perth earlier this month.

Isla Martin, 9, who competed in just her second meet, finished an impressive fifth in the 100m freestyle, sixth in the 50m backstroke and eighth in the 100m backstroke and 100m individual medley events.

Joel Davies, 11, also had a successful meet finishing fourth in the 50m breaststroke, fifth in the 100m butterfly and 100m breaststroke, seventh in the 50m butterfly and eighth in the 200m individual medley.

Other swimmers to secure top eight finishes were Alex Saffy, 11, who finished fourth in the 100m butterfly and seventh in the 50m butterfly, Amy Kerr, 12, who was sixth in the 100m breaststroke and seventh in the 200m breaststroke and Josh Hunt, 11, who finished sixth in the 50m backstroke.

Club members set 43 new personal best times at the meet which was attended by nearly 500 of the State’s best junior swimmers aged eight to 12 years.

Club head coach Toni Moore said all of the club’s competitors gained valuable experience from the meet which would prepare them well for the upcoming summer swimming season.
