SW weekend scrub fires labelled “suspicious”

Fire crews are still mopping up after a “suspicious” fire burnt through more than 2ha of bushland near Centenary Road in Usher overnight.

Police are investigating the blaze which started as a small scrub fire about 7.50pm.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services regional duty coordinator Brett Finlay said the blaze was being treated as suspicious and there had been several other fires in the area.

Bunbury career, bushfire and volunteer firefighters attended the blaze, which was contained by about 9.30 last night.

Crews worked throughout the night and are still on the scene mopping up and putting in fire breaks.

Mr Finlay said no properties were under threat.
