SWFL women’s: Hands Oval grandstand building set to open for grand final despite not being fully completed

Hands Oval’s new grandstand building will be open for the South West Football League women’s grand final on Sunday despite not yet being fully completed. The multimillion-dollar project, spearheaded by local company Perkins Builders, has seen the demolition of the old building and the construction of a new home for the league featuring a 750-seat grandstand, offices for the league’s administration and facilities for players, coaches, umpires and media. Seating in the grandstand and the first level of the building which includes the players and umpires rooms will be open on the day, however work is continuing on other parts of the facility, which will be closed to the public. Bunbury mayor Jaysen Miguel said the building would be an “incredible new asset for Bunbury”. “Congratulations and a huge thanks to Perkins and the SWFL for the hard work they have been doing to ensure the stadium could be as operational as possible for these important events,” he said. “I know city staff have also been working hard on the surrounding areas, and they look fantastic. “The Hands Oval precinct is a community asset that will have amazing social and economic benefits into the future, and while I can’t wait to get down to this year’s SWFL grand finals to check it out, I also can’t wait for some exciting opportunities moving ahead.” SWFL president Barry Tate said the league was delighted with the new facility. “The SWFL would like to congratulate both the City of Bunbury and Perkins for the outstanding work to have the building and surrounds ready for our grand finals,” he said. The remaining works are slated to be finished by December 20, with an official opening to be held before the start of the 2025 SWFL season.
