SWFLW 2023: Homecoming for several Harvey Bulls players as Eagles pay a visit
Sunday’s clash between the Harvey Bulls and Collie Eagles at the Harvey Recreation Ground will be special for several players.
When it was announced in 2020 the Eagles would not be able to field a women’s team, the likes of Rachel Wright (nee Shepherd) and Rachel Tilbrook were faced with a tough decision, given how promising their careers were.
Both decided to join the Harvey Bulls and since joining the club, they have fallen in love with their new home.
Wright might be captain of the Bulls this season, however she is likely to always have a soft spot for the team which gave her a start in football.
It was a brutal start for the Eagles on Saturday, held scoreless against South Bunbury despite no shortage of endeavour from the players.
Off the field, there were positives, with four players from Narrogin — Sharny Skipway, Harley Heywood, Trazine Farmer and Asha Slawinski — making their debut for the club.
In a tremendous display of care for his players, Eagles coach Matt Stevens has committed to drive the players to and from Narrogin all season in a bid for them to get a game, as there is no women’s competition in the Upper Great Southern Football League.
