School leavers and career changers will have the chance to gain valuable insight into their future careers at South Regional TAFE’s Bunbury Campus Open Day on Saturday.

Miss Good completed her horticulture training at South Regional TAFE and has now returned to the campus working in her dream job as a supervising horticulturalist.

“I didn’t know what I wanted to do at first and then I was sitting outside watering my pot plants one day and it hit me like a bolt,” she said.

“I started in Cert II and my lecturers were so passionate and had so much knowledge that the more that I learnt from them, the more of their passion gleaned on to me.

“It was great coming back to work on the grounds of TAFE as I was familiar with many of the gardens and plants.

“I am really happy with my job.”

Miss Good has not looked back, going on to complete the Certificate III and Certificate IV in Horticulture.

She then added the Diploma because she enjoyed her studies so much.

Miss Good said it was important to have access to lecturers to find the best possible career path.

“If you are not 100 per cent sure and you don’t know exactly what it is that you want to do, go down and talk to someone,” she said.

“It’s never too late to have a career change or re-train, just to give it a shot.”

Lecturers and training staff will be on hand at the Open Day to speak to students about courses available in 2019 as well as short courses they can get started in immediately.

South Regional TAFE managing director Duncan Anderson said the event gave an insight into the advantages of TAFE training.

“Students that apply can have confidence, knowing that our courses are developed with job outcomes in mind and taught by highly skilled lecturers,” Mr Anderson said.

The Open Day will include campus tours, demonstrations, exhibits of students’ work and application assistance. The free event is open from 10am to 1pm.
