The Plug closed to mariners for bridge work
The channel through The Plug into Leschenault Inlet will be closed on Monday as the storm surge barrier is raised to match the height of the new footbridge.
Department of Transport has advised the channel will be closed to all mariners from 5am until 4pm as a land-based crane is used to undertake the work.
“Mariners are advised to keep well clear of the Koombana channel at the entrance to the Leschenault Inlet and consider using alternative boat launching facilities at the Casuarina Harbour during the works,” a statement from DoT said.
Raising of the barrier is set to complement the newly-raised footbridge, which is set to be officially opened on February 3.
