Tigers Red battle difficult conditions to secure win

Wet weather did not get in the way of another big day of action in the Bunbury and Districts Softball Association, with women’s outfit Tigers Red leading the way in their 11-6 win over a plucky Wanderers Black. The game will be remembered for the efforts of Tigers Red first base Sue Randall, who made playing in the atrocious conditions look easy. Despite the heavy rain, Randall managed to secure eight throws from the infield, which ensured her side managed to keep their noses in front. Heading into the sixth and final inning, a grandstand finished loomed, with Tigers Red leading 5-4, although the game was still very much in the balance. With the game on the line, Tigers Red attacked at the top of the inning with vigour, landing five single base hits, which ultimately led to six runs and a satisfying victory. The Steelers also had Kaitlyn Myles to thank for their slender 15-12 win over Tigers White, with the tenacious pitcher gradually able to wear down a spirited batting line up. Although Tigers White were not able to walk away with the win, they showed plenty of heart throughout the game and never dropped their heads when it looked as though Myles could put them out of business from the mound. In the senior men’s competition, Steelers Blue rolled to a big 12-2 win over the Wanderers, while Steelers Gold came from 2-0 down against Tigers Red to pinch a draw before the game was called off.
