Timing ripe for SW jujube fruit harvest

South Western Times

A Chinese fruit being grown in certain parts of WA including the South West, is about to come into season in a big way.

The jujube fruit is grown in Donnybrook, Manjimup, Bridgetown and Coolup and will come into season from late February to April.

The Department of Agriculture and Food is doing nutrient testing in the orchards as part of a broader program to grow the industry.

Department of Agriculture and Food development officer Rachelle Johnstone said the industry had grown from a few small growers to a cohesive industry with a plan for growth.

Locally-grown Chinese jujubes are sold at local markets and some Asian supermarkets in Perth.
