South West Hockey League men’s powerhouses Marist and Boyanup were forced to fight for their wins at the weekend, with Exies and TownsSouth putting up a solid fight.

With competition leaders Wests having the bye, Boyanup climbed to the top of the table with a 1-0 win over TownsSouth thanks to a goal from prolific scorer Brayden Dalton. Meanwhile, Marist were also challenged heavily, with Exies putting up a solid contest in their 1-0 loss to the Blues.

Alby Lawrence was the only goalscorer for the game, with Exies’ goalkeeper Trevor Foster putting in a valiant effort.

Lawrence broke the deadlock in the second half of the game, but the Blues were unable to double their advantage thanks to some strong defence from Exies.

Associates and Collie were forced to share the points after a tough 2-2 draw on Friday night.

David O’Brien and Travis Taylor scored Associates’ goals, while Collie were spearheaded by Greg Tomasini and Gareth Old.

This weekend Wests take on Associates in Busselton, while Boyanup and Marist will do battle in Bunbury tomorrow night.

Collie take on Exies to finish the round.

This weekend all A2 and A3 Grade men sit out a general bye together with TownSouth, leaving Wests to move up at the expense of wooden spooners Associates in Busselton with Boyanup and Marist clashing for top spot in a Bunbury blockbuster at 6.30pm tonight with Collie entertaining Exies up the hill at 1.30.
