A four-point hair-raiser was the highlight of Tuesday night’s A-grade fixtures in the Bunbury Women’s Senior Basketball League which also saw a thumping win for Aces Sky.

With Tornadoes Black coming in as hot favourites, Aces Navy knew they’d have to go all out to stay with them, and that’s just what they did.

They got off on the wrong foot however, with Tornadoes Black racing to an 18-2 lead in the first quarter.

The second term was an arm wrestle between the two sides as Aces Navy tried to keep themselves in the game.

They reduced the deficit to five during the quarter but went into the half-time break trailing by seven.

In the third quarter Tornadoes Black once again threatened to run away with the game, extending the lead to 18 and being 16 ahead at the final break.

The final term saw Aces Navy almost stage a remarkable comeback, relying on a flurry of two-pointers and bringing the margin to three points.

Tornadoes Black were able to just stick it out and come home with their third consecutive win to give them top spot on the ladder heading into the new year.

The defeat leaves Aces Navy in fourth place with seven wins and four losses.

It was a much more simple game for Aces Sky as they beat Conquerors 104-56.

The Conquerors could only keep up for the first 30 points of the game before Aces Sky pushed ahead and didn’t look back.

The margin extended at each break, with disciplined basketball keeping Aces Sky ahead.

Despite the heavy defeat, Conquerors’ Karinda Farrant shone with a 32-point game, the only player on her team to get more than seven points.

On the other hand, five Aces Sky players scored in the double digits with Ella Edwards the star with 22.

What was scheduled to be the last game of the year between Tornadoes Red and Eaton Eagles did not eventuate with the Eagles forfeiting the game and handing Tornadoes Red an automatic 20-0 win, putting them second on the ladder.
