Tornadoes Red dominate again

Tornatoes Red continued their strong start to the women’s Bunbury Basketball Association season with a thumping 63-point win over Aces White at the South West Sports Centre on Friday night.

The undefeated Tornadoes Red were led by Raya Thompson (25 points) and Taya Burrows (23) in the 99-36 victory.

Thompson hit 12 field goals in an excellent performance, while Burrows hit two three-pointers to continue her good form.

Georgia Emmett (17) played well for Tornadoes Red, while Dena English chipped in with 11 points.

Alivia Carbone scored a team-high 10 points for Aces White, giving them their fourth loss from five games.

In the men’s competition, Bulls climbed into second position with a nine-point win over Tornadoes Red.

Matthew Leary scored 20 points in his first game for the Bulls in their 81-72 win.

Leary hit four three-pointers in an excellent performance, while Paddy Phillips scored a game-high 21 points.

South West Slammer Chris Douglas chipped in with 17 points for the Bulls, while Slammers teammate Michael Lay scored 16 points in his first game of the season for Tornadoes Red.

Aces White grabbed their fourth win of the season when they upset Tornadoes Black by one point.

An Aaron Edwards free throw on the buzzer gave Aces White the 67-66 victory.

Nathan Van Dijk (nine points) hit a three-pointer to give Tornadoes Black to tie the game, but they could not hold on, with Brody England (24) and Sam Sopolinski (23) both dominating. Jack Davies and Carey Watkins top scored for Tornadoes Black with 14 points each, while Craig Kamocha scored 10 points in a solid game.
