Transformed Koombana foreshore wins excellence award

Koombana Bay foreshore has received its cherry on top with City of Bunbury and engineers Cardno claiming top honours for its redevelopment.

The new-look foreshore won the Park of Year award at last week’s Parks and Leisure WA Awards of Excellence for 2018.

City of Bunbury and Cardno were presented with the award for the multi-million dollar project.

Cardno landscape architecture section leader Matthew Unwin said the award was a “nice finishing touch” to the project.

“It’s very rewarding and demonstrates the fantastic hard work by consultants and contractors,” Mr Unwin said.

The award celebrates and promotes vibrant, successful, well designed and managed, new or significantly revitalised parks and open spaces.

It also recognises and rewards exceptional examples of best practice in terms of design and management.

The massive redevelopment was part of the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project and saw the entire foreshore area undergo a complete overhaul.

Mayor Gary Brennan said the award confirmed the hard work the City of Bunbury and Cardno put in to design a world-class precinct for the community to enjoy.

“The redevelopment has been the largest major project in Bunbury for a number of years and has changed the face of the city,” Mr Brennan said.

“Koombana Foreshore is a much-loved and utilised area by the community, visitors and tourists alike.”

“This award recognises just how special the foreshore is and we share this award with the Bunbury community.”
