After an unbeaten start to the tournament both Marist and Hay Park will fight it out on second weekend of the BDCA T20 First Grade fixtures. The two sides face off at Forrest Park at 2.30pm. Marist had a comfortable opening day of fixtures to start their title defence. They comprehensively beat Harvey-Benger by 27 runs thanks to Brayden Clarke’s 72 runs off 55 balls and two wickets. Hay Park also had an opening day to remember with two successful chases, the first a six-wicket win over Leschenault. Joe Williams took four wickets to bowl Leschenault out for 78 and gave their batters an easy job. In the afternoon they faced Dalyellup, who were all out for 114, but the total turned out far from par as Hay Park reeled it in in less than 12 overs to win by eight wickets. Kris Miller (48* off 32) and Mathew Thomas (52* off 28) made light work of the chase with blistering knocks. Two teams who will be looking to get some more consistency will be Leschenault and Dalyellup who’ll play at Leschenault Recreation Park at 2.30pm. Despite losing their first game, Leschenault bounced back with a commanding 10-wicket win over Harvey-Benger. Harvey’s total of 72 was never going to be competitive as Nicholaas Le Roux smashed 55no off just 23 balls to reach the total in the seventh over. Dalyellup’s opening six-wicket win over Eaton was marred by the comprehensive loss to Hay Park. With only the top two sides making the Grand Final, teams will need to get on a roll soon to ensure they’re not left behind. Both Harvey-Benger and Eaton desperately need a win and will play each other at the Harvey Recreation Ground at 10am. Harvey-Benger put up a fight against Marist but were heavily defeated against Leschenault while Eaton’s batting has let them down in both their games so far. A loss for either team would put them on brink of being out of the running for a top two spot.
