Visually impaired golfer Glenn ‘Juicy’ Niciejewski looking for a caddy to help his career on the green

Do you love golf? Do you also love helping other people and seeing their success? If so, a South West golfer wants your help. Glenn “Juicy” Niciejewski is not your average fan of the green. Losing his vision following a car accident 25 years ago, he has spent nearly one and a half decades taking part in visually impaired golf competitions across the country — and internationally. After moving from Queensland to Bunbury in June, Niciejewski is looking for a caddie to help him practice his game at the Capel Golf Club and travel with him to tournaments. He highlighted a number of roles a caddie plays in helping him play the game he loves. “They have to sort of set me up on the tee box and find where the ball goes and point out distances,” Niciejewski said. “The putting green is the hardest. I can drive a golf ball 210m to 220m, but getting that 2m putt into the hole, that’s all the caddie reading the greens (and) me getting the pace of them.” Niciejewski joined Blind Golf Australia in 2010 and since then has played across the country and at courses in the United States, Canada and Italy. He sits in second place in Blind Golf Australia’s Order of Merit program, which includes some of the best visually impaired golfers in the country. Niciejewski has the trophies to show for his talent, recently returning from the Gold Coast with wins at the Blind & Inclusive Queensland Open and the ISPS Handa Australian Blind Golf Open. Later this month, he will travel to the South Korean capital of Seoul to play at the ISPS Handa Blind Golf Korea Open, being joined on the trip by part-time caddie Tara Fraser. Niciejewski will compete in the B1 category, which is for those who have total blindness. To make sure no one has a chance of cheating, all competitors have to wear black-out sunglasses. While he has a serious side when it come to his golf, Niciejewski lives life on the brighter side of life most of the time. “There’s a competition between me and a couple of other blindies about who wears the loudest clothes,” he said. “I don’t care what I wear. If it’s bright, I’ll wear it. Orange, pink — the brighter, the better.” Those who are keen to be Niciejewski’s caddie will need to commit to helping out twice a week, with patience, knowledge of the game and a good sense of humour also well valued. When asked what his new caddie can expect, Niciejewski was quick to answer. “A lot of good fun, going around Australia, overseas, and just coming (to the Capel Golf Club) twice a week to keep my game going,” he said.
