WANL 2022: Souwest Jets look to bounce back from round three loss in upcoming match against East Freo Sharks

After suffering the biggest loss of their season so far, the Souwest Jets will be looking to bounce back in a big way when they take on the East Freo Sharks. The Jets will be hitting the road to Perth’s Gold Netball Centre once again, where they will take on the Sharks during the fourth round of the 2022 WANL season. The Jets currently sit in fifth place on the WANL ladder with a 1-2 record and will be looking to bounce back from their 64-42 loss to Western Roar last weekend. Head coach Karly Guadagnin said the team was “disappointed” with how things panned out during their loss to Western Roar. “We know we can do better and we let ourselves down at certain points,” she said. “We were certainly playing against some tough competition but we had opportunity and didn’t convert. “It was really pleasing however that we did only lose the last quarter by one so we finished strong, but we just need to know that when we are playing against those top teams that we really make sure we all play our role and convert at every opportunity inside goal.” However, Guadagnin said the team was looking forward to having another solid match on Friday night against the Sharks as well as having some familiar faces return to the squad including former Perth Oriole and West Coast Fever player Larrissa McAllister, who made her Jets debut last weekend. “We’re looking towards getting out there on Friday night and hopefully coming away with the points after some good reflections and training sessions during the week,” she said. “We’re really focused on having a good four-quarter effort and making sure we convert at every turnover ball and possession. “We’ll have Larrissa McAllister and Jen Brown joining us again this week and we’re hoping to get some warm-up time out of Ingrid Colyer who will be coming back from injury and having a baby. “We’re really looking forward to Friday night.” The match will also mark the first time new recruit Sophie Eastaugh will face her old squad, having spent 2021 with the Sharks 20/U team. Eastaugh made her debut for the Jets during last weekend’s loss to the Roar, where she managed 13 goals while mainly playing in goal attack during the match. Guadagnin said while Eastaugh will be a bit nervous to go up against her old club, she’ll be ready to go out and compete. On the other hand, the East Freo Sharks currently sit in sixth place with two losses and a draw after matching the Southside Demons 54 apiece in the competition’s first draw of the 2022 season last weekend.
