A methane monitoring system and gas flare has been installed at the Stanley Road Waste Management Facility in Australind by the Bunbury Harvey Regional Council.

The flare has been designed to burn off the methane produced by decomposing food and organic waste with the gas trapping 24 times more heat per mass than the burn-off by-product carbon dioxide.

The system has revealed the facility produces gas at a rate of 1063cu m per hour.
